A green urban space with a sustainable spirit and a playful everyday life in Østerbro

Tåsinge Plads is a modern urban space in the outer part of Østerbro, where climate, local quality of life, and play go hand in hand. The square is located on Tåsingegade, close to Vibenshus Runddel and Fælledparken, and serves as a green oasis in the densely populated residential area. Here, residents, passersby, and families with children of all ages and with various purposes meet—to linger, play, find peace, or take a break from cycling. With rainwater gardens, trees, sunken areas, and winding paths, Tåsinge Plads is not just a place to spend time, but an example of how climate adaptation can be an active part of the city’s character and use.

The atmosphere is calm and everyday, yet full of small details and activity. Here, children play on the water features and climbing nets, bikes are parked on the way home from school, and adults settle down on benches with a cup of coffee. In the summer, blankets and casual picnics spread across the square’s green spaces, and even in the winter months, the architectural features give a sense of purposeful urban space. The square is surrounded by residential buildings, giving it the character of a local gathering place rather than a destination. It is a square you grow up with and return to—and definitely worth a visit.

Tåsinge Plads was inaugurated in 2014 as Denmark’s first climate-adapted urban space and has since served as a benchmark for sustainable urban development. The area was previously a standard asphalt surface, but as part of the climate adaptation project, it was transformed into a stormwater management solution disguised as a green oasis. Tåsinge Plads is part of the Østerbro Climate District and has drawn international attention to Danish climate strategies.
