A fluid urban space between the bridge, residential buildings, and the sea in the heart of Nordhavn
The Kronløbsbassinet is one of the most distinctive and modern urban spaces in Nordhavn—a large, open area between the water, buildings, and bridges, where the harbor literally flows into the city. Located between Sundmolen and Trælastholmen, the basin serves as technical infrastructure, a residential area, and a publicly accessible space. The open water surface is surrounded by wide promenades, stairs, bridge connections, and views of the Øresund, creating a fluid space with tranquility, depth, and vistas. Here, you can spend time with the water right at your doorstep, cross over bridges, or simply sit in the shelter and watch the ships and the city in motion.
The atmosphere at Kronløbsbassinet is characterized by light, openness, and a sense of connection to the elements. The presence of water lends the space a special tranquility, while the variety of bridges and buildings creates a dynamic sense of a multi-level urban space. Local residents, visitors, and passersby all gather here, and although the area is new, it has already found its own rhythm with strollers, conversations, cups of coffee, and evening strolls along the quay. It is a space with cafes and restaurants offering views, places to linger, and a quiet elegance that complements the surrounding architecture.
The Kronløbsbassinet was constructed as a central part of the development of Kronløbsøen, which is itself a newly created island project in the heart of Nordhavn. The island was completed in 2024 and is built atop an underwater parking garage, making the area a pioneering technical and architectural project in Copenhagen. The basin, which separates the island from Trælastholmen and Sundmolen, is part of this infrastructure—yet designed with an eye for aesthetics and human experience. As an urban space, the Kronløbs Basin represents a new type of public space in Copenhagen: defined not by paving or function, but by fluid connections and views toward the horizon.
