The Fishing Harbor, Nordhavn
At the very tip of Nordhavn, far from the new residential neighborhoods and wide promenades, lies Fiskerihavnen—also known as Skudehavnen. Amid pleasure boats, fishing cutters, workshops, and homemade container homes, a small harbor community of fishermen, artisans, and local enthusiasts thrives. Here, nets hang to dry along the quay, boats are moored side by side, and life follows the harbor’s rhythm rather than the city’s.
The fishing harbor is one of the few places in Copenhagen where commercial fishing still shapes everyday life. In the afternoons, you might be lucky enough to see the fishing boats returning with the day’s catch. At the same time, the area serves as a marina, a meeting place, and a haven for those seeking a bit more edge and authenticity. Here, there are no designer urban spaces or polished facades, but rather a very special atmosphere of creativity and community in the small harbor village nestled between the water and the city.
Local tip
: Head out in the late afternoon, when the light is low over the harbor and the fishing boats are returning to the dock. Find a spot on a bench by the water and enjoy one of Copenhagen’s most distinctive and overlooked harbor settings.
