Midsummer bonfire in Nordhavn

Midsummer's Eve at Sandkaj
, Nordhavn, Sandkaj

Come join us as Sandkaj sets the stage for an atmospheric midsummer evening by the water.

On the longest day of the year, residents, neighbors, and visitors gather to celebrate summer, community, and the traditions that bring us together. City life buzzes along the waterfront, with restaurants and cafés filling the neighborhood with life, and as evening falls, we gather for the event’s very special highlight: the floating Midsummer bonfire.

As the flames reflect off the harbor and the light slowly fades over Nordhavn, the quay fills with bonfire speeches, communal singing, and that special atmosphere that only Midsummer’s Eve can create. The bonfire on the water has become a landmark of Midsummer’s Eve at Sandkaj, bringing together people from all over the neighborhood and the rest of Copenhagen year after year for an unforgettable midsummer evening.

In 2026, the Midsummer celebration at Sandkaj will take place for the fifth year in a row. What began as a local celebration has grown into a long-standing tradition in Nordhavn, where old Midsummer customs meet the new waterfront neighborhood.

This year, the floating bonfire returns on an even grander scale, so that even more people can enjoy the sight of the flames dancing on the harbor while the sound of communal singing echoes along the quay.
