Hans Egede Church, Nordhavn
Hans Egedes Church is actively working to foster a sense of community, connection, and local ties in the rapidly growing neighborhood of Nordhavn. As part of the Danish National Church, the church aims to be present where the city is developing—both through traditional church activities and new forms of community engagement.
As Nordhavn develops into a new district of Copenhagen with thousands of new residents, Hans Egedes Church has committed itself to creating meeting places and communities that bring together people of all ages, life situations, and backgrounds. The church organizes everything from worship services and discussions to communal meals, cultural events, children’s activities, and local partnerships that support daily life in the neighborhood.
A key initiative is their Tiny Church, called Tolvkanten —a small, mobile church space located in Nordhavn that serves as a local gathering place in the heart of the new neighborhood. Tolvkanten is conceived as an accessible and informal church close to everyday life, where people can meet for conversations, activities, reflection, and fellowship on an equal footing. The project reflects the desire to create church in new ways in a modern, developing neighborhood.
The Twelve-Sided Hall is used for small gatherings, community-building activities, and temporary events, among other things, and also serves as a symbol of the church’s ambition to be flexible, locally rooted, and present where people live their lives.
Through its work in Nordhavn, Hans Egedes Church helps to strengthen social ties and create spaces for community and reflection in a neighborhood characterized by change, new construction, and new neighborhoods.
