Here, you can take a stroll along the lakes, read a book on a shaded bench, or explore the park’s playgrounds with the kids. There’s plenty of room here for both activity and quiet reflection.
Østre Anlæg is also an ideal destination for art lovers. Hidden throughout the park’s green nooks and crannies are sculptures and monuments that invite you to explore. You’ll also find the National Gallery of Denmark and the Hirschsprung Collection in the park, meaning you can combine nature with world-class art experiences.
If, on the other hand, you’re in need of complete peace and quiet, we recommend taking a break on one of the benches under the pergola in Rosenhaven, one of the park’s most serene corners, where flowers and birdsong create a special atmosphere of tranquility and contemplation. Here, the city feels far away and the seasons feel right at your fingertips.
The park was built on the site of Copenhagen’s former ramparts, which surrounded the city until the late 1800s. Today, history lives on in the landscape, where old bastions, lakes, and rolling hills bear clear traces of the old fortifications. It is precisely these historical traces that give Østre Anlæg its unique character and set the park apart from other green spaces in Copenhagen.

If the weather is sunny and warm, you can experience Østre Anlæg at its most peaceful in the morning hours, as the sun filters through the treetops. If, on the other hand, the forecast calls for snow and frost, you’re guaranteed a thrill as you race down one of Copenhagen’s best sledding hills behind the National Gallery of Denmark.
