Fælledparken, Østerbro
In the heart of the city’s bustling life, you’ll find this green oasis—a place for play, exercise, community, and tranquility.
Located between Østerbro and Nørrebro, Fælledparken is Copenhagen’s largest and most vibrant urban park. Here, the city opens up into a green landscape of wide lawns, old trees, and winding paths, where the pace of everyday life slows down.
Fælledparken is a place for both relaxation and activity. Here, sports fields, playgrounds, running trails, and recreational areas sit side by side, ensuring the park is bustling with activity all year round. Whether you’re in the mood for a picnic on the grass, playing with the kids, or going for a run, Fælledparken is the perfect spot.
By the end of the 19th century, Copenhagen’s population had grown, and the new bridge districts left few places for recreation, relaxation, and leisure. Consequently, there was a growing need for more green spaces in the city, and the City of Copenhagen decided to develop the city’s public park on the former common lands, which had served as communal grazing grounds and later as military training grounds. The goal was to create a freely accessible green space for the entire city. The result was Fælledparken—one of Copenhagen’s largest public urban spaces, which still serves today as a central green space in the heart of the city.
Local tip
In the afternoon, the sun gently bathes the lawn, inviting you to have a picnic and relax. Settle in and let the calm wash over you, or grab a soccer ball and play a game with friends.
