Debut Fest 2026: Who's pulling the strings?

Experience the environmentally conscious installation *Who Is the Puppeteer?* by the young visual artist Sif Smith, created using materials such as hay, fabric, and clay.

The artwork depicts Mother Earth as a motionless marionette. The cotton fabrics are plant-dyed, and the marionette is made from recycled materials. 

“Who is the puppeteer?” refers to our reluctance and lack of initiative when it comes to implementing measures to protect the environment. The puppet, like the Earth, is subject to humanity’s desire to take on the task: to pull the strings. Who dares to take responsibility and bring the puppet back to life? We are waiting for the next puppeteer.

Debut Fest is Copenhagen’s festival for emerging art and new talent. The festival brings together debuting artists across various art forms and gives the audience the opportunity to experience Copenhagen’s new voices up close. 

This year, you can enjoy a total of 36 different acts over two days when Debut Fest takes over the Brønshøj Water Tower and the Kildevæld Cultural Center on September 4 and 5.
