The Cultural District, Nordhavn, Østerbro

The Cultural District of Østerbro and Nordhavn is a small and dynamic neighborhood association, 100% local and founded with the vision of bringing more art, culture, and community to the city’s public spaces.

The Cultural District’s events are free outdoor experiences. Throughout the year, you can enjoy classic traditions such as Midsummer’s Eve, Constitution Day, Shrove Tuesday, and Halloween, as well as newer traditions like Trianglen Market Day and the Aarhus Street District Street Festival. The Cultural District also regularly co-organizes festivals, street parties, markets, community dinners, open houses, debates, and networking events.

The events take place in town squares, parks, promenades, and other open urban spaces, where the city becomes a shared gathering place for people of all ages, interests, and backgrounds.

At Kulturdistriktet, we believe in the city’s squares and public spaces because they belong to all of us. They are open and accessible spaces that offer room for creative expression, spontaneous encounters, and local communities. At the same time, they remind us of the value of togetherness and solidarity in a global world marked by division and polarization.

Behind the scenes, the Cultural District uses these events to foster networking, strengthen collaboration among local stakeholders, and build capacity and new opportunities in the neighborhood.

The Cultural District is not alone, but is part of a global movement of cultural districts, all of which are working to create a high concentration of art and culture in urban areas.
